Chapter Fifteen
Regan grinned at Tierney pressing buttons on her microwave. The dim cook light above the stove highlighted her old bulky bathrobe that had once been white. Her thick hair flopped over to one side like a bad blonde toupee.
âSuper hot, I know,â Tier said, swinging the tie on her robe.
âLike a sixty-year-old tiger costume,â Regan teased.
Tierneyâs gaze lowered, taking in Reganâs barely buttoned white dress shirt and black boyshorts and nothing else. Keeping it classy for New Yearâs Day night. They hadnât had much use for clothing for the past few hours.
Itâd been the longest time theyâd spent together lately, and she was completely sated. Tier was too by the content look on her face. The fact that sheâd offered to make them tea rather than kick Regan out said a lot. A successful mission to take her mind off not being with Hope today.
Regan leaned against the counter, crossing one leg in front of the other. Tier didnât miss it. âCut it out,â she laughed. âYou know how good you look.â
âDo you have a sexy robe like that I could borrow?â
âNo, just the one. Which is why youâre being treated to the frazzled mom look.â
âI donât mind.â Regan tugged on the tie. âRobes can be easily removed.â
âUh-huh.â Tier opened a thin cabinet next to the microwave. âYou were saying something about your brother. He has a crush on one of your players?â
âOh, yeah. I caught him texting with Gina Morales on Christmas.â
âReally?â She pulled out a box of herbal tea.
âI connected them to talk about non-profit stuff, and they kept talking. Then it made sense why he wanted to go to Boston. Not to watch me coach.â
âTo see her.â
âTo meet her in person. They really hit it off. Ginaâs actually in Chicago right now. Theyâre spending New Yearâs together to... I donât know. See what happens, I guess.â
Tier set two tea bags on the counter. âDo you mind?â
âShit no. I love Gina. Itâs a good match. Theyâre both hilarious and sarcastic.â Regan laughed, then added, âBut man, heâs gonna have his hands full. I warned him sheâs a tough cookie, but he likes how feisty she is.â
Bryce was cool with Gina being aro and ace. Regan had long suspected he might be a bit gray ace, but Bryce had never felt the need to define himself. Heâd often joked his sex drive was so low, it dragged behind him like the muffler on his first car.
âItâs not a problem with you being her coach?â Tier asked.
âNot to me. We go back a long way from my playing days. Her familyâs the best.â
âHave you said anything to her? If thatâs even appropriate.â
No surprise Tier would be concerned about any impropriety. âOh, I teased her about it. She texted back Iâm her coach and it had nothing to do with on-ice performance.â
âSo, mind your own business.â
âYup.â Regan quirked her eyebrows. âThatâs why they didnât tell me. Bryce said he knew Iâd be insufferable, which I absolutely have been for the past week.
